What Is Wheatgrass?
Wheatgrass is the young grass of the common wheat plant called triticum aestivum. This gluten-free, edible grass is either juiced into a “wheatgrass shot,” or milled down into a fine green powder that’s used to create a multipurpose product for both humans and animals.
How To Grow Wheatgrass?
Wheatgrass can be grown indoors or outdoors. A common method for sprout production indoors is often on trays in a growth medium containing potting mix (peat moss / perlite / vermiculite). Leaves are harvested when they develop a "split" as another leaf emerges (Approx 8-10 cm tall).
These can then be cut off to allow second crop of shoots to form. Sometimes a third cutting is possible, but may be tougher and have less sugars than the first.
